This is funny since just now, my co-workers fiance brought him a jar of peanut butter. He is trying to lose weight. I asked him if he was going to eat the whole jar and he said maybe not the whole thing tonight. I added up the calories for him, it came out to 6460 calories. He said but it's high in protein....lol

Also, a great example of people not knowing how much they are eating at all without a food scale. His first spoonful was huge, since I've been counting for a while, I could tell it was 3-4 tbsps. He looked at the label after eating that heaping spoonful and said wow, 2 tbsps is 190 calories so I just ate 80 that easy, I didn't have the heart to tell him he actually at 200+ calories easy in that spoonful, lol.

CB, he read the label afterward and realized he was wrong. It's a pretty common misconception.

I stopped eating nut butters basically because the portions make me so sad.. I could eat 1/2 jar without blinking.

It is a decent source of protein if you can afford the calories. I prefer meat. Less fat calories in meat plus I like it better. Then I have more calories to spend on other foods.

Yeah maybe if you're bulking since you don't need as much protein when you're in a surplus. Otherwise, the calorie to protein ratio is about as bad as it can get protein sources go, especially when you consider the bioavailability of nut protein. Like 60% if not lower. Not bad for vegans though but that's not saying much.😁

True! I can’t beat premier protein shakes for protein. 30g for 160 calories. Tuna is 20g for 100 calories so similar. For those not eating meat peanut butter is better than no protein. Hubby can afford some pb&j added in because he has a high protein dinner after (and gets to eat like 3000 kcal). I personally can’t afford peanut butter calories, but occasionally I can work in an ounce of almonds.

I like peanut butter on a toasted English muffin. But have to use a measuring spoon so Ii don't go over a tablespoon or two. It's hard to get the peanut butter (all of it) out of the tablespoon to spread it on the bread!

Yeah, well, I don't do a 100g of peanut butter. Still, it's spendy in the calorie department. But a PBJ is like a cupcake. It's a treat, not a meal. But it's a treat with a little protein, so I keep it on the menu.

I end up eating a lot of peanut butter. I've cut back quite a bit on meat trying to move to a vegetarian diet but not quite ready to commit all the way. I use it for protein but you do have to measure or it's super easy to get out of hand.
I like it as an afternoon snack, a tbsp on a rice cake usually. Used to eat it with apples but too easy to go overboard if you're dipping.

Nothing wrong with peanut butter or any food. Just as long as people don't think it's a good source of protein. Unless you have 600 calories to spare and only need another 25 grams of protein that day. 😁

So ya I was looking at protein values for each oz of fish, pork, beef and turkey/chicken. Think soaking up to .8-1.0 protein per pound will take some effort! Talked with a youngster this weekend into competitive body sculpting/MMA said he was get close to 300 gr of protein a day?

60pack that is how I've read most performance based diets are. High high constant protein no less than 1gm/lb and varying carbs & fat depending on goals. Most are low fat around 20-25% the rest carbs. Protein never changes..

Protein is really important and I forgot how bad the bioavailability of nuts compared to meat. 43% if I recall correctly for peanuts. So not only are you getting 25 from 600 calories of PB, you're only making use of half of that.
