I made the apple bread my family has been asking for. I thought I would be able to resist it. WRONG. Ate 2 pieces. Uggh. I got the carb fog and then napped for 2 hours. I had the same reaction when I ate the cookies after the July 4th party. So now it has a name. I told my family that I cannot bake anymore. I'm just not strong enough to resist eating these baked goods when they're sitting in my kitchen. My grandson gave me some grief but he understands my weaknesses. 😖
Time to move on, but very disappointed in myself. 😡

Disappointed for being human, testing your limits to better define them, and doing something nice for your family? Nonsense!

I know what you mean. My wife gave me berry pie with a scoop of ice cream, and the sugar rush was a bit severe. I am also making a slow recovery from my last workout, that I overdid a bit. I have a problem with working out too extreme, and pushing it too much. I finally saw your email, thanks!

I'm the same way. I couldn't be around that great baked goods and resist. For now it must go.😪

Now you know and you're taking steps to help yourself. That's not a bad thing at all.

when you know better, you do better! Good job on removing the temptation altogether! <3

Thanks for your feedback. I needed that. Yes, it was a learning experience for me. Testing my limits? Yeah ...I'm just not there yet. But not defeated...🤔

What may be getting to you is the wheat -- not just the carbs. Only after I was forced to give up wheat for IBS did I discover that I had been having allergic reactions to it for some time. But still... carb loading only works for athletes I think. The rest of us fog up and have to take a nap. Sorry you had to get fogged up.

Life happens! We forgive and move on. I agree about the wheat flour - I really try to avoid it

My wife and daughter don't follow my diet plan and I bake and cook for them on a fairly regular basis, you get used to cooking things you don't eat, it's really helped me to forego temptations in less stimulating situations.

On holidays, we make pies for the family and a separate baking dish of diet compliant pie filling for me, stevia sweetened. It's not a perfect solution, but it allows me to partake without completely crashing my diet or my metabolism. I got diagnosed with Celiac, so they finally take this need seriously.

Testing your resolve is a good lesson..for better or for worse! Beating yourself up over a misstep is NOT a good lesson, ever! Just acknowledge the oops, and get back on plan. Be kind to yourself..you're SO worth it!

I don't know if this helps but I'll offer it up: The reality is, it's just not humanly possible to maintain your "orthodoxy" every hour of every day for the rest of your life. We live in the real world -- with family gatherings and holidays part of the package, along with allergies and illnesses that sometimes control the choices we make about food. Each of us has our own limitations and we get to make the rules for ourselves as well. For me -- I know I can't eat the way other people eat because a) I will be sick and b) I'll be fat. But that doesn't mean I don't give myself a break every now and then. I just make choices that work for me. But my suggestion is: Find a balance between on the one hand, protecting yourself and your good health and on the other hand, enjoying your holidays with family and friends, making them happy with the baked goods that they look forward to. Somewhere in between the two extremes of indulgence and denial is the place we're all trying to get to. Good luck.

I love to bake but know I can't do it unless I'm giving it away or can have enough people to finish it off. If it's looking at me, I'll eat it til it's gone...

Just get hungry for something sweet sometimes.

OR become one of those people who learns to bake using alternate flours, fats, and sweeteners (honey, maple syrup, molasses, dates, fruit), and post the recipes online for people looking for sugar free, gluten free alternatives.
