I’ve been overweight all my adolescence. Both my parents struggled with their weight/health as well. I tried a lot of different diets/gimmicks growing up, but I didn’t make any sustainable weight loss until I moved out. I never tracked, and my main form of exercise during this period was biking for my commute. I was wearing a size 18/20 during high-school. I took a few gap years, and by the time I started college I was around a size 14. But the college lifestyle destroyed all my gains! At my highest weight I was 297lbs (5’6) at the start of my senior year. I lost about 20 pounds following a semester abroad. When I returned stateside I was determined to not fall back into old habits, being close to 300lbs did something to me. So, I started doing “walk away the pounds”, and when I could afford to, started doing yoga consistently, roughly 3x weekly. I was getting stronger and maintaining my weight but I found it difficult to actually lose body fat until I started counting calories and macros. And to be honest, trying and failing at keto was the main catalyst for me getting used to calorie counting. I’m a glutton for punishment, so I counted my calories the hard way, using my calculator and notes app on my iPhone, until I found the fat secret app. I feel like I’m really hitting my stride now, I’m reincorporating cardio back into my routine and yoga keeps getting marginally easier. My goal is to get down to 197lbs by the end of 2021/early 2022. That would be 100lbs in about 3 years.
