Happy Monday FS family! Still looking for a new therapist. It seems my old therapist and her clinic no longer take my insurance so now I'm back to cold calling who has a schedule and personality that matches mine.

Weight seems to have found a window to stay (144 - 146) which is above my starting point. I do notice that I look slimmer and my arms are more tone and smaller since I started climbing. I will hit 2yrs climbing this summer. I wonder if some of this weight is muscle... but at the same time, I see the fat layer on my tummy. Since I hit my 50s the weight gain shifted to my belly instead of my hips. So there is definitely more fat to lose. I can still see my abs under there.

I also tried making peanut butter oatmeal bar and some store bought protein bars to up my protein intake since I'm not a meat eater. I dont feel it's working for me. I'm feel the fullness but at the same time bloated. In the past egg whites worked but for some reason I stopped doing that. Not sure why. As I write this, I realize that I know what worked in the past but am resisting going back. Why?! I have no idea. Why am I standing in my own way?!? Ugh! I really do need a therapy!

Protein bars definitely cause gas in many people. Regarding the peanut butter vs. egg whites -- PB is sweet (unless you're using one with just peanuts & salt). Perhaps you're drawn to the sugar now. Why not try just eating a serving of nuts instead?

I can’t really eat nuts. I’m allergic. I can get away with a few which I already do to get my whole food supplement of omega 3 and selenium.

If you have a nut sensitivity/allergy, I would definitely stay away from peanut butter! If the issue is getting in more protein, have you tried shelled edamame? You can buy frozen bags of it in the grocery for about $2/16 oz., and it's 10g protein for 100 kcal. Bonus is that soybeans are a complete protein.

@just. I can eat peanut butter depends on the brand and I limit it. I’m allergic to almost everything. I’ve built a tolerance and am hyper vigilant to my food allergies. Yes I eat edamame as well. Toasted and shelled everyday as a whole food estrogen replacement since I’m post menopause. And am also allergic to it. So again in moderation.

Ah yes, the pilgrimage to mecca that body fat does in your 50s. It's a warning of potential diabetes. I was sure you'd want to hear that.... I have such cut forearms and calf muscles now, I look like I'm in training. My belly not so much... :D

@bubbles diabetes I’ve always watched for since I was young enough to know about it. Both my parents have it and my love for sweets makes me extra watchful.

Hope you can find a new therapist that works for your needs. From what I’ve learned, if you are needing more protein PB is really categorized as a fat. It’s a good fat but pretty high up on fat v. protein. Oatmeal is pretty high carb compared to the protein it offers, which for me counts as a carb. The egg whites are great! Whole eggs too. Another go to protein source is Greek yogurt. Since you are not a big meat eater maybe try plant based protein powder? I use KOS brand. It’s pretty clean. I also useVital Protein but it’s animal based.

@storms thanks. Still searching and hoping to find one soon. I decided to cut out the peanut butter. I liked it mostly for the saltiness but it is too high in fat for me. I’m not a fan of the powdered anything so I’m just gonna try to up my egg whites. I don’t really do whole eggs unless I’m eating out. I found away to eat the protein bars though. I can eat half at a time and it doesn’t make me bloat or upset my stomach or trigger my allergies.
